Gold of Empires

The sculpture Gold of Empires is a part of the AfterToday series.

The beauty of a human face cast in bronze becomes a symbol of vulnerability to the inexorable passing of time.

Creating a portrait covered in cracks for the project, Zigura explores forms from the Classical Antiquity yet again. Frozen in eternal serenity, Atlas’ eyes reflect the
persistence of existence and Chronos’ power over it. Adopting the palette and texture of old gold, the author conveys the present’s special orientation towards a connection to the past and seeks an appropriate spatial form to express that observation. Many transformations and acts of destruction had changed the course of history before, but are the contemporaries capable of predicting a new decline?
